BEIJING, July 16 —— The godfather of Chinese rock, Cui Jian, treat his fans to a rare unplugged concert at the 2006 SuperLive Concert in Beijing last night.
The pumped-up crowd stayed on their feet for the entire two and a half hour set, cheering wildly as the music legend belted out hits like Mr. Red and Beijing Story.
“Twenty year ago, I said Chinese rock was like a knife cutting into this land. The Super Girls may reign in the industry today, but the knives still stand,” Cui said before singing “The Knives”。
The concert met international LiveHouse standards, with the thousand-strong audience accommodated close to the stage in a venue with no seats.
A-list stars like female rocker Zhu Zheqin will take to the 2006 SuperLive Concert stage next.
The concert, which joint organized by Chuangmen Music and Mediact Jingwen Media, was a series of live concerts for the 20 anniversary of Chinese rock. The whole event will continue in Beijing for the duration of the year.
