You'll Never Walk Alone

 2006-10-23 12:32:41

  Introduction

With 11 Gold and 2 platinum albums, his fans believe that B. J. Thomas is the best voice to be heard in modern American music. His songs include: “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head,” The Eyes of a New York Woman,“”I Just Can't Help Believing,“”Rock'n Roll Lullaby,“ and ”Hooked on a Feeling. “His distinctive voice and career has spanned Gospel, Pop, Country, and Rock and Roll music.

Rogers and Hammerstein form America's most famous composer song writer team . Their excellent Broadway musical “South Pacific,”was based on the book “Tales of the South Pacific,”by James A. Michener. The musical' s setting is on Pacific island paradise during World War Ⅱ. One of the musical's great songs is “Cockeyed Optimist. ”

“When the sky is a bright an merry yellow,

I forget every cloud I've ever seen,

For I'm only a cockeyed optimist,

  Immature and incurably green

I have heard people rant and rave and bellow

That we've done and we might as well be dead

But I'm only a cockeyed optimist

And I can't get it into my head.

They say the human race is falling on its face

And hasn't very far to go,

But every whiporwhill is selling me a bill

And telling me it just ain't so.

I could say life was just a bowl of jello

And appear more intelligent and smart,

But I'm stuck like a dope with a thing called hope,

And I can't get it out of my heart,

  Not this heart. “

Nellie Forbish, the main character in “South Pacific,”is falling in love. Her song is called “I'm in Love with a Wonderful Guy!” Leading into the song, she says, “I expect everyone of my crowd to make fun of my proud protestations of faith in romance. And they'll say I'm native as a babe to believe every fable I hear from a person in pants. Fearlessly, I'll face them and argue their doubts away. Loudly I'll sing about flowers in spring! Flatly I'll stand on my little flat feet and say.

Love is a grand and a beautiful thing!

I'm not ashamed to reveal, the world famous feeling,

  I feel.

I'm as corny as Kansas in August

I'm as normal as blueberry pie

No more a smart little girl with no heart,

I have found me a wonderful guy!

I am in a conventional dither

With a conventional star in my eye.

And you will note, there's a lump in my throat

As I speak of that wonderful guy…

As Nellie goes on singing, let's skip to another Rogers  and Hammerstein's song of the same name as their musical,  “The Sound Of Music. ”

  CHILDREN:

  The hills are alive

  With the sound of music

  With songs they have sung

  For a thousand years…

“You'll Never Walk Alone”is another joyful example of talented people working together to produce a song that will be around for a long time.

  You'll Never Walk Alone

  Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein Ⅱ

  Music by Richard Rogers

  Vocal: B. J. Thomas

When you walk through a storm,

  hold your head up high

And don't be afraid the dark,

For at the end of the storm is a golden sky

And the sweet silver song of a lark.

  Walk on through the wind,

  Walk on through the rain,

Though your dreams be tossed and blown.

Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart,

  And you'll never walk alone,

  You'll never walk alone…

1.When you walk through a storm.

Walk through: pass through (a place or substance) on foot

Walking through the forest one day, they found a strange little hut that no one had ever seen before.

2.Hold your head up high 昂头

And don't be afraid of the dark.

be afraid (of) = fear.

  例如:Don't be afraid.

Are you afraid of the  dark?

3.For at the end of the storm is a golden sky and the sweet sliver song of a dark.

A golden sky and the sweet silver song of a lark is at the end of the storm.

主语“a golden sky and the sweet silver song of a lark” 太长,最好用倒装句。

  例如:Down came the rain.

Round the corner walked a large policeman.

Under the table was lying a half-conscious young man.

4.Though your dreams be tossed and blown.

= The storm of life will toss your dreams and blow them away.
