在古希腊，火象征着创世纪、复兴和光明，自6月4日起从2000年奥运主办城市澳洲雪梨出发、经过全球五大洲(约七万八千公里行程)及3600名选手接力，抵达2004年奥运会主办城市——希腊雅典的奥运圣火，该届圣火的特别之处在于它是第一次巡行全球五大洲以反映奥运会徽的五个色环意义包括首次经过非洲和拉丁美洲！

　　以“传递圣火，凝聚世界”为宗旨，有史以来第一次走遍五大洲的雅典奥运会火炬接力现在拥有了自己的主题曲——《圣火相传Pass the Flame》。

　　《圣火相传》由顶级音乐制作人特雷弗·霍恩（Trevor Horn）与洛尔克莱梅（Lol Crème）合作完成。霍恩曾与许多世界最著名的歌手和乐队合作，例如保尔·麦卡特尼、布赖恩·费瑞、宠物店男孩演唱组、噪音艺术乐队等。希腊作曲家莉娜·尼古拉科普卢（Lina Nicolacopoulou）创作了希腊文歌词。CD中的英文与希腊文版均由希腊著名歌手伊安尼斯·科特西拉斯（Yiannis Kotsiras）担任主唱。此外，来自世界各国的许多知名歌手都参加了CD录制，他们的声音展示了奥运火炬接力的全球性意义，体现了“传递圣火，凝聚世界”的宗旨。

　　《圣火相传》将伴随着奥林匹克圣火走遍全球。做为一种文化媒介，它将充分体现和传播奥林匹克火炬接力的价值。
